Sheffield Major Sports Events Unit:- The Sheffield Major Sports Events Unit is part of Activity Sheffield in the DEL Directorate of the Sheffield City Council. It liaises closely with Governing Bodies of Sport and venues in Sheffield to deliver an annual programme of events. These range from high participation level events such as the Sheffield Half Marathon to elite National and International events such as The Norwich Union British Grand Prix Athletics and the World Snooker Championships. Since the Major Sports Events Unit was established in 1991, over 600 Major Sports Events have taken place in Sheffield, utilising many of the City sporting and non-sporting facilities. In anticipation of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, organisations in Sheffield and the Yorkshire region are positioning themselves to generate as much benefit as possible from the opportunities the Games will bring to the UK. One of these opportunities is to attract incoming international teams to use the city and region as a base for their preparation for the Games in London. A small and experienced team, linked to the Major Sports Events Unit, is currently working on this project
The Star:- The Star is South Yorkshire’s daily newspaper, based in Sheffield with more than 150,000 readers every day. It reaches North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire and has a district edition for Doncaster.
The Star has been supporting Sheffield Half Marathon for more than a decade and regularly keeps its readers informed with runner stories, entry updates and other important information about in the run up to the event.
