Entries for this year’s SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon are continuing to storm ahead of the 2009 event and could reach entry limit at the earliest point to date, say organisers.
The race, one of Sheffield’s biggest sporting spectaculars, has already reached 3500 entries, more than 1200 ahead of the same time last year.
The 2009 event closed entries more than two weeks in advance after reaching 5,500 entries before race day for the first time in its history.
Ian Thomas, entries coordinator for the Sheffield Half Marathon, said: “The pace that entries are coming in this year is amazing and, at the rate we are going, the race will reach its entry limit way ahead of April 25. It could be that 5,500 entries is reached by mid March.
“It seems that this year’s race is on course to be the most successful to date and we are looking forward to seeing a record amount of money raised for 10 fantastic local causes.”
After raising £95,000 for the race’s 10 chosen charities in 2009, organisers are this year hoping to break the £100,000 mark. Last year’s whopping total brings the amount raised in the race’s 29 year history to more than £600,000.
