Running stars on hand for training advice

Olympic Marathon Medallist and London Marathon Winner Charlie Spedding will be joined by 2009 Sheffield Half Marathon Winner Jason Ward to offer runners of all abilities advice on training for the Sheffield Half Marathon this coming Saturday, 30th January.

Sheffield’s largest running store, Accelerate, will be hosting the event at their Attercliffe Store to celebrate their first Birthday of their Flagship store.

At 9.00am runners can meet with Jason for a training run along the local roads and part of the Sheffield Half Marathon route. The run will be gentle and last no more than an hour. Joint store owner, Debbie Smith said, ‘Don’t worry about Jason’s best of 65 minutes for a half Marathon, we are going to tie his shoe laces together to slow him down!’

Jason will then be joining champion runner Charlie Spedding to answer any racing or training questions for the city’s big race which takes place in April. Charlie recently launched his first book on running, ‘Last to First’, and he will be on hand to sign copies.

The store is also offering plenty of other advice for those entering the half as they will be joined by Holywell Active Health who will be on hand to check peoples running mechanics and to talk injury prevention as they train for the event. A full detailed gait check is available to any caller to the store, but will be enhanced on the day with one the countries leading bio-mechanists, Colin Papworth. Colin commented, “Many running injuries can be blamed on incorrectly fitting running shoes or shoes that have been inappropriately suggested in the first place”.

Everything gets under way at 9am with Jason’s Training Run and Charlie Spedding will be instore from 10am until 3.30pm. So for some top advice from some of the best runners around and to have your running style check, pop along to the Accelerate store.
