Will you give your time on race day?

Steve Brailey, Sheffield Half Marathon trustee and chief executive at Sheffield International Venues (SIV), talks about why the help of volunteers in the run up to and on race day is so important.
“Volunteers play a vital role at charities and community organisations, and the SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon is no exception.
Without the many volunteers who sign up to help out on and before the day of the half marathon, many of the tasks would have to be paid for. But instead, thanks to the generosity of members of the public across our region, we can ensure that even more vital funds can be donated to the ten nominated charities.
There is an array of tasks that we rely on our kind volunteers for. From the mail-out of the runner packs before race day, to packing lunches, removing runners’ timing chips, being time zone marshals and helping at drink stations along the route and at the finish line.
Many of the SIV team are at Don Valley Stadium on race day and they always feedback how inspirational the whole event is. The enthusiasm and dedication of each and every volunteer is fantastic to see and we hope this year will be no different!
So why not offer just one morning of your time on Sunday 27 May to show your support to this amazing and inspiring event? Please get in touch by emailing info@sheffieldmarathon.com or calling(0114) 2736681 if you would like to help.”

2. Volunteers
Thank you for your query. Sheffield Half Marathon volunteers provide a valuable service and, by dedicating their time for free, we can ensure that costs can be concentrated on policing the event to ensure the safety of runners and spectators, first aid officers to deal with the health of participants and the overall operating costs of an event of this size and popularity.
