Will you give your time on race day?

Steve Brailey, Sheffield Half Marathon trustee and chief executive at Sheffield International Venues (SIV), talks about why the help of volunteers in the run up to and on race day is so important. “Volunteers play a vital role at charities and community organisations, and the SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon is no exception. Without the many volunteers who sign up to help out on and before the day of the half marathon, many of the tasks would have to be paid for. But instead, thank...read more

£110,000 – What an amazing amount

When we added together all the money raised from the 2011 SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and Fun Run held back in April, we were truly amazed at the figure we came to. We have always known that the people entering the Sheffield race are generous, but this figure blew us away. There was a collective intake of breath when we handed the cheque over to our benefiting charities at our recent awards evening and the amount was revealed to everyone in the room. Each charity had played...read more

Richard pulls on his running shoes at 65 for good cause

It’s been a couple of years since I‘ve run, but this yea'rs SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon is so important because it is an opportunity for me to raise money for Sheffield Wildlife Trust. I believe passionately in the excellent work the Trust does in protecting our local natural environment. This year is especially important, not only is the Trust in the process of raising money to purchase Greno Woods to safeguard it for its wildlife and for the people of Sheffield, but public sect...read more
